MBBS Fees in Private Medical Colleges in India
UGC approves the private medical universities. The private medical colleges are associated with state and central governments. Deemed Universities have the authority to grant degrees but cannot establish off-campus colleges or affiliate with other institutions. They can create off-campus centers within their own state after five years of existence, with prior approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC). Private universities are led by a ‘President’ or ‘Chairperson,’ unlike state and central universities that have a ‘Chancellor’ as the head.
Private institutes have the freedom to set their own fees, but some states like Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka have set limits on the annual fees for privately-run MBBS colleges. This was done to prevent excessive fees being charged to students. Private institutions offer seats through different quotas: Management Quota, NRI Quota, Government Quota, and Others.
Management Quota MBBS Fee:
The MBBS fee for the Management Quota varies, ranging from INR 4,00,000 in Kerala’s medical colleges the fee charged up to INR 17,95,000.
NRI Quota:
The fee for the NRI quota in private medical colleges is determined by each institution. On average, the annual MBBS course fee for students applying under the NRI quota is 25,000 US Dollars.
Government Quota:
Some private colleges allocate a certain number of seats under the state government quota. The MBBS fee for these seats, even in private institutions, is lower compared to other categories, typically ranging between INR 10,000 to INR 7,00,000 annually.
Other Quotas:
Certain private or self-financing MBBS colleges in Karnataka offer a category labeled as ‘other.’ The fee for this category ranges from INR 21,00,000 to INR 40,00,000 per year.
